Rabbit Rock

On my trip to the local pond on Sunday morning (it's a neighborhood drainage pond, but the wildlife that frequents it doesn't care) I discovered a rabbit warren. There are, I don't know, maybe dozens of them, hiding out from predators (coyotes, hawks) the Colorado sun, and from amateur nature photographers, in a man-made rock wall that borders the pond. Photos of the little critters are above.

Sunday Morn at Our Local Pond (in the back yard)
No rabbits, just Turkeys...4 of them, eating up new buds on the blueberry bushes.
Big silly birds!

Ben Franklin's choice for the National Bird. Turkey. I want to fly like a Turkey, to the sea ..

I see rabbits here all the time when riding my bike. But they don't hide in rocks. Just stand still hoping to be disguised while we fly by. Now, the deer on the other hand see if they can barely miss you as you ride by (they don't always miss and are known to have caused quite a few crashes to unsuspecting riders when they suddenly appear out of the woods from your side). A big buck ran in front of my friend one morning missing him by a few inches. The buck was startled and slid across the road and slammed into a big tree. Rabbits never do that.

Ha! I love how rabbits think they are invisible when they see us.
